Jun Makita
Exhibited artist
Born in 1980 in Niigata Prefecture and raised in Osaka, Jun Makita began drawing on his own after graduating from high school. Influenced by manga, outsider art, and graffiti, his creative practice is rooted in personal memory — shaped by the anxieties of childhood, the discomfort of city life, and the vital energy that transcends them. Through the raw and instinctive act of drawing, he gives life to nameless creatures that serve as intermediaries between his inner world and the outside one. These creatures, often marked by their striking eyes, seem to observe as much as they are seen — inviting a quiet, enigmatic form of communication with the viewer. Makita’s works have been exhibited internationally, resonating with audiences across cultures through their unfiltered emotion and immediacy. Jun Makita was selected for the art competition “GEISAI” organized by Takashi Murakami.
