Laura Limbourg
Exhibited Artist
Throughout her academic journey, Laura Limbourg's artistic evolution was shaped by diverse studios and internships, transitioning from classical oil aviation painting to watercolors and paper in Martin Mainer's studio and later exploring silk and diluted acrylics in Josef Bolf and Jakub Hošek's studio, which influenced her dissertation. Her pivotal travels to Southeast Asia—Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines—exposed her to the disheartening prevalence of young girls in prostitution. Limbourg translated her emotional response into her art, portraying these girls as both strong heroines and vulnerable figures, deliberately utilizing reduced descriptiveness and emphasizing color and symbols over realistic depiction to draw attention to the issue.
