Journey Into My Fantastical World

When the world has just started to resume from the lockdown, our uprising local artist, Kate Pong has never been stopped. Being one of the popular artists in Hong Kong Affordable Art Fair, Kate has been invited by the contemporary gallery “Yidi Art Gallery” for another solo exhibition. Gathering previous and newly created artpieces by Kate, the exhibition summarises the first chapter of her art journey. She is excited to invite art lovers to join her “Journey Into My Fantastical World” in September 2022.
“In the midst of creation, a part of myself stays in the art pieces. Whether it is in the form of texture, shape, colour, or just the mood, it stays there. That’s how it is crafted and reveal my fantastical journey”.
Delicate Hand Crafts
Being a professional graphic designer, Kate is also an expert fondant cake maker for nearly 10 years, she has always indulge in creating different things by hands. Ever since creating her first clay artwork, this hand-kneading art was like her good old friends, clay art led her to contemplate in a world full of imaginations and fantasies. Her debut solo exhibition “Contemplating with Clay” launched last year has showcase her enthusiasm for clay art and her unsatisfied desire on creating more art pieces. In the face of global pandemic, Kate chooses to continue pursuing various creative opportunities and embarks on a journey full of amusement. She is eager to build a fantastic world beyond imagination. This Solo Exhibition, “Journey Into My Fantastical World”, shares this important evolutionary process with all art lovers.

Born in a family of reputed rolling mills in Hong Kong, while also having lived in San Francisco and the United Kingdom, Kate has been exposed to different knowledge and ideas since her childhood. From different images to materials, from religions to music, from nature to daily life, everything is like seeds gently planted in her heart. Just waiting for a splash of ideas in dreams and sprouting into branches and leaves, touching the fantasy from afar. She always sees herself as a "Dreamer". The coming “Journey Into My Fantastical World” exhibition will be showcasing more than 20 pieces of previous and brand new artworks, demonstrating the progress of Kate’s craftsmanship and experiencing her experiments in the use of colours and materials. Intricate clay segments handmade individually and appliquéd onto her paintings - layers of brighter and vivid colours with more precise and delicate collage. Her works are not limited as 2D paintings but firstly stepped into the vibrant 3D realm, creating her "Pair of Pears" and "Goldfish", full of vigour and faith, while gentle and fun at the same time.
