Summer Playground
12th August, 2023- 31st August, 2022
Yidi Art proudly presents “Summer Playground” to complement this summer from 12 to 31 August, 2022. The group exhibition will showcase color-rich paintings and sculptures by three artists: Nhozagri, CY Wang and Zoie Lam. The artists share a common vibrant energy that celebrates child innocence from their universe. With their own unique styles, they have created inviting and colorful works that would surround viewers with a diverse range of eloquent rainbows, adorable creatures, and pure-hearted characters on adventures. The high energetic ambiance creates a joyful playground, welcoming audiences to be submerged in a world of fun and delight; lively moments to be enjoyed under the summer heat.
Zoie Lam is the creator of Imaginary planet “Zlism''. Her creative practice unfolds the stories and happenings of the planet’s residents, a charming scene of lively characters. “ZL” are the initials of Zoie Lam, while “LISM” stands for her philosophy and ideas. The macrocosm is a means to express her stand on various social phenomena and spread positive vibes. Currently on display are selected paintings and ceramic sculptures from her series of vases and hills. Lam is recognised for her stylistic use of intricate tapestry of patterns juxtaposed with vivid colors. She always fills her paintings in brilliant hues, especially fluorescent colors with acrylic paint, wool yarn, occasionally oil-base marker and technical drawing pen. The level of sophistication and detail build an energetic and spirited scenery, amusing to the eyes and mind.
Nhozagri is dedicated to exploring artistic narrative paradigms, especially the study of unconventional ways of storytelling. The artist found her own wacky, weird and wonderful narrative style to illustrate stories of her original, bizarre universe and contents: “Super Nhozagri Kingdom”. Her works involve painting, sculpture, animation, independent publishing, performance, costume and more. The presentings in this exhibition are her selected mixed-media paintings, coupled with her one-of-a-kind plush toys, “mollusk citizens,” that actualizes her creatures. Her dream-like palate and soft, blurry silhouettes deliver a gentle, warm fuzzy impression that reminds one of a simpler, merrier time.
The practices of CY Wang (WANG Chien-Yang) range from photography to installation and painting. As “MANGA” generation, his art is influenced by his childhood memories involving cartoons, video games, TV shows and more. Most of his works embody an intersection of pop culture, history, and fine art that explores the cultural and social perspective of the young generation and their relationship with the Internet, video games, and social media. Featuring in the show is the artist’s new painting collection, “Rainbow”. The clean, solid colors of a rainbow shows bright energy and brings a dynamic visual impact to the audience. Simple but joyful, the scenario effectively reaches into one’s childhood and memories, offering a heart-warming familiar sensation yet a fresh inspiration.
